Ashes

There’s an intoxication that never lasts

It’s always fire in the beginning

But ash in the end

It’s almost always this way

I’ve tried to figure it out

Tried to pinpoint the moment

Tried to calculate the exact moment to lower the flame before the ash comes

But the fire is intense

And we get lost in it

And neither of us knows when to pull back

And in the end both sides are burnt

And all that’s left before us is a pile of ash

The ash that is now us

The ash that once was a beautiful flame

And it almost always happens this way

Two souls burnt out before they ever even had the chance to really see one another
